Biography: Ali's career started as a music teacher in Devon and Somerset schools, moving on to Bristol and London comprehensives in the following 8 years. She moved into business after teaching, to take up a Sales position for the Stock Exchange, where she met her husband, Romek. They both moved on to work for Reuters as Account Managers, a position she enjoyed until deciding to leave to start a family. After having 2 children (Lauren now 20, Jude, 17) she worked part-time for the Financial Times, setting up and running a new sales team that launched a successful FT information service to City institutions. In 1991, Ali achieved one of her long-term goals-specialising in writing and delivering training courses for business. She now has her own training company, working mainly in the City but having developed many other blue-chip clients from other sectors, now works throughout the UK. Ali is co-owner and director of a pet-security business, working in partnership with national pet charities. In the last 11 years Ali has also joined the conference -speaking circuit, guest-speaking throughout the UK and Europe since 1999. Ali and her family moved from London to Lavant, near Chichester, in 2000, where she became an active part of the welcoming community and amongst other activities, started the Lavant Churches Youth Music Group and provided musical support for the first few Alpha courses run by the church. During the 10 years Ali lived near Chichester she was an active member of the Chichester Liberal Democrats, eventually becoming their membership secretary, and running many Focus drops and surveys. She was also actively involved in various fund-raising events for the local branch. Ali works with the LGA, designing and delivering training courses for LibDem councillors selected from across the UK, in communication, media and presentation skills. Ali's voluntary work included: chair of trustees for a local cancer charity, chair of governors at Chichester High School for Boys and governor at Chichester FE College. Her hobbies include singing in bands, coastal rowing, theatre and dance, skiing, swimming, literature, and socialising with family and friends.
