Heather Kidd replaces Matthew Green12.00.00am BST (GMT +0100) Sun 2nd Sep 2007
At a packed meeting in Craven Arms on 29 August, Councillor Heather Kidd won her bid to become the Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for the Ludlow constituency. Cllr Kidd, former leader of South Shropshire District Council, is its current opposition leader. She will work hard to become the first female MP to represent Bridgnorth and Ludlow at Westminster. In a vote of party members, Heather polled 84 votes, Dr Susan Juned, the chairman of Stratford-upon-Avon Council received 47, and local Ludlow resident, Councillor Christine Tinker, got 34. Councillor Kidd said: "I'm delighted to have been selected. This is the only constituency that I've ever wanted to fight. We love it here, it is our home. We think this is a very winnable seat. Wouldn't it be good for Ludlow to have its first ever Liberal Democrat woman MP? I'm ready to go anytime, as soon as the election is called. "Our present MP, Philip Dunne, spends more time in parliament but I'll be working hard in the constituency. There are lessons to be learned from our last campaign, and I will not be taking people's support for granted. Our policies on a wide range of topics address current issues."
