'An Inconvenient Truth'10.26.20am GMT Tue 13th Mar 2007 Green Issues are top of the Agenda today, with both Conservative and Labour parties acting to reduce carbon emissions, a topic supported by the Liberal Democrats and on which they have been campaigning for some years. To support this initiative, there will be a showing of the global warming film 'An Inconvenient Truth' at the Red House in Albrighton, at 7.30pm on Tuesday 20 March. Admission is free, and refreshments will be provided. Last autumn, The Liberal Democrats proposed their Green Tax Switch, whereby Income Tax would be reduced, in exchange for polluters being taxed more. This met with widespread support, and is one way to address the problem of climate change. However, individuals must act to reduce their impact on the environment, and there is a whole range of energy-saving suggestions that people can follow at minimum cost. Some people may have seen the Channel 4 programme called 'The Great Global Warming Swindle' at 9pm on Thursday 8 March. This presented the view of a few 'experts' who argued that we had nothing to worry about - it was all part of a natural cycle of events. It ignored the finite world resource of fossil fuels and the need to find alternative sources of natural energy, and stated that melting ice-caps were nothing new (in the summer!). If you thought their argument was convincing, and we need to do nothing about climate change, then I recommend you go and see 'An Inconvenient Truth' on 20 March at the Red House in Albrighton. Even if you don't agree, it will leave you with the belief that if Al Gore had become President of the USA instead of George W Bush, the world would be a safer place today!
