Thanks to our supporters and helpers

12.00.00am BST (GMT +0100) Fri 20th May 2005

We would like to thank everyone who supported the Liberal Democrat campaign both locally, and in neighbouring areas. The LibDems ended up with 62 MPs, their largest total since 1923, and gained Birmingham Yardley and Solihull in the West Midlands! In Telford and The Wrekin, Labour were the only party losing support, resulting in the Conservatives gaining the Wrekin seat from Peter Bradley. The votes cast and the percentage change from 2001 in the two constituencies are given below:

Telford

David Wright (Labour) 16,506 (-6.3%)

Stella Kyriazis (Con) 11,100 (+5.0%)

Ian Jenkins (LibDem) 4,941 (+1.5%)

Tom McCartney (UKIP) 1,659 (+1.3%)

The Wrekin

Mark Pritchard (Con) 18,889 (+3.5%)

Peter Bradley (Labour) 17,957 (-7.2%)

Bill Tomlinson (LibDem) 6,608 (+3.2%)

Bruce Lawson (UKIP) 1,590 (+0.5%)
