12.00.00am BST (GMT +0100) Thu 7th Apr 2005

Cllr Bill Tomlinson has been adopted as the Liberal Democrats parliamentary candidate for The Wrekin. The closing date for nominations is Tuesday 19 April, so people have until then to submit their forms and be officially approved as candidates for the election on 5 May. Bill has lived in the area for 16 years and has represented Shawbirch on Telford & Wrekin Borough for the last 8 years, and is currently leader of the LibDem group on the Council.

Cllr David Murray, President of the Wrekin & Telford Liberal Democrats, says, "Bill Tomlinson will be an excellent candidate for the LibDems in The Wrekin. A qualified accountant, he works in Walsall, and was the LibDem candidate in Walsall South in the 2001 general election. He is an experienced local campaigner and will be seeking to maximise the Liberal Democrat vote on 5 May."
