Wrekin and Telford Liberal Democrats: Campaigning across the Wrekin and Telford Constituencies

Opposition to Car Parking Charges in Newport

12.00.00am BST (GMT +0100) Fri 10th Sep 2004

LibDem councillors in Newport have spoken out against car parking charges in the town since they were first suggested, and consider that it is even more unfair that the scheme will now apply only to Newport and Wellington. Letters of objection have been ignored, and a legal challenge may be mounted in the near future, should legal opinion prove favourable. Labour Councillors on Telford and Wrekin Council voted for the parking charges despite massive opposition, but successfully excluded the Telford district centres which they represented on the Council!
