12.00.00am BST (GMT +0100) Sun 27th Jun 2004

The Mayor of Wellington, Councillor Pat Fairclough, welcomed members and guests to the Town Council's Civic Service at St Patrick's Catholic Church in King Street on Sunday, 27 June at 3pm.

The service was taken by the Mayor's chaplain, Father John Rafferty, who spoke of the need to have a vision of the kind of community that would benefit the people of Wellington, and work towards it in a structured and compassionate way. Music was provided by Veronica Thomas (organ) with soloist Theresa Collins, and the support of the Wellington (Telford) Brass Band, conducted by their Musical Director Steve Curtis.

Also attending the service were the Mayor and Mayoress of Telford, the Mayor of Newport, Councillor Sally Wiggin, and representatives of many local organisations. A collection was held in aid of the Mayor's Charities for voluntary groups working with children and young people in Wellington. After the service, refreshments were provided in All Saints Parish Hall, to the accompaniment of the Brass Band.
